About Us

Maharajah's was established by Vasant Ranchhod in 1991. We are currently located in Cuba Street Petone.

Vasant originally operated a spice shop, supplying the public and restaurants with Indian spices. Through public demand Maharajah's Indian Restuarant was opened in November 1991. Initially operating with a small 24 seating capacity, and serving authentic Indian cuisine, Maharajah's was full most nights. It became apparent that due to popularity, the restaurant was too small so Vasant decided to take the plunge and expand the restaurant from 24 seats to it's present 150 seats. Maharaja's has not forgotten it's small beginnings and though the setting and decor are now very upmarket, prices are kept to an affordable range.

The restaurant is busy most nights so booking in advance is essential.

In addition to the restaurant, Maharaja's now provides a Takeaway service which includes both home delivery and pickup.
